Minted Magazine

The objective of Minted Magazine is to share with the citizens and designers of Africa the importance of good type as well as inform them about new typographers on the design scene. The magazine also serves as an individual artwork for designers to collect, as there will only be 54 issues (one for each country in Africa) and each focusing on a typographer in the main article, giving a well rounded base on type’s origin, where it is going and, discussing current news in the type industry.

The choice of theme for this magazine is based on how typography is a form of communication that we all use in our everyday lives whether it is creating a piece of art, writing an email or reading a book. It is the way we are all able to communicate, and utilise type to display emotion. Letters are one of the earliest forms of communication between countries and even continents, and without a stamp on a letter it can’t be sent. This refers to the 18th and 19th century stylistic choices made when creating an overarching aesthetic for the magazine.
